Maximum Freedom: The New Traveller Camp XXL Outdoor Hammock – More Space for Your Wilderness Adventure
Anyone who loves the freedom of sleeping under the stars knows that details matter. For over 30 years , AMAZONAS Ultra-Light has been a cornerstone of the outdoor world, developing gear by professionals, for professionals. Our mission has always been to make sleeping outdoors as simple and comfortable as possible. Our bestseller, the Traveller Camp , revolutionized how bushcrafters and wild campers in Europe spend their nights. But we don't believe in standing still. The outdoor community asked for more space, more freedom of movement, and a solution for taller adventurers .
We listened. The result: The Traveller Camp XXL Outdoor Hammock.
The Answer to: "What do I need to sleep outdoors?"
The challenge of wild camping or survival tours is often the weight-to-protection ratio. A tent is bulky; a simple hammock offers no protection against rain or insects. The Traveller Camp XXL solves this as a fully integrated all-in-one system. It combines:

An extremely durable hammock .
A permanently installed, fine-mesh mosquito net.
A protective, generous tarp (rain cover).

Why is a larger XXL version more comfortable?
For trekking fans over 1.80m (6'3") or those who move a lot at night, standard sizes often lack the room for the Brazilian lying technique (lying diagonally). The XXL version significantly extends the lying surface. This ensures a straight back and prevents that cramped feeling. Plus, the larger tarp provides more dry storage space for your gear underneath the hammock.
Technical Highlights & Benefits at a Glance

XXL Lying Surface: Optimized for tall individuals and maximum comfort when lying diagonally.
All-Round Protection: The integrated tarp with a 3,000mm water column keeps you dry, while the 1000 MESH mosquito net stops even the smallest biting midges.
Integrated Thermal Compartment : A sleeve on the underside holds your sleeping pad in place—keeping the warmth where it belongs.
Ultralight & Robust: Despite its size, the system remains backpack-friendly at approx. 1.8kg (Ripstop Polyester).
Integrated Ridgeline: The ridgeline for the mosquito net is pre-tensioned, massively speeding up the setup process.

Simple Setup: A Perfect Camp in Record Time

Spot Check: Find two trees approx. 4–5 meters apart.
Hang it: Secure the hammock using suspension ropes (we recommend our tree-friendly Adventure Ropes). White arrows on the hammock show exactly where to attach them.
Tension: Pull the tarp outwards over the ridgeline and secure the four corners to the ground with the included high-visibility pegs.
Ready: The mosquito net tensions itself automatically. Your secure forest camp is ready!

Pro Tip for Maximum Versatility : No trees? No problem! To ensure total flexibility, the Traveller Camp XXL can be configured as a ground setup . By using trekking poles to prop up the ridgeline, you transform the system into a functional ridge tent on the ground. Another standout feature: the system can be used in tarp-only mode. Simply cinch the hammock up tight under the "roof" to create an instant dry shelter—perfect for ground sleepers or as a protected area for cooking and gear organization during foul weather.
FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
  • Is the XXL version much heavier than the original? Thanks to ultralight Ripstop material, we’ve kept the weight at approx. 1.8kg—hardly noticeable in a trekking pack considering the comfort gain. • Do standard sleeping pads fit in the thermal compartment? Yes, the compartment is designed for standard outdoor sleeping pads, preventing them from sliding around during the night. • Is the XXL model useful for smaller people too? Absolutely! The extra space can be used for gear storage inside the hammock, and the larger tarp provides a much better "dry zone" around your camp.

Invisible in the Woods: The New Traveller Camp Forest Outdoor Hammock –
The Ultimate Upgrade for Bushcraft & Wild Camping
Anyone who spends their nights outdoors knows: your gear determines the success of your adventure. For over 30 years , AMAZONAS Ultra-Light has stood for innovation and quality in the field of ultralight equipment. As pioneers in the industry, we have made it our mission to channel the feedback of our community directly into our product development. The result? Our absolute bestseller, the Traveller Camp, has been given a new look. Introducing the all-in-one hammock-tarp combination: Traveller Camp Forest in our proven leaf-camouflage pattern.

What do I need to spend a night outdoors?
Many trekking fans and wild campers in Europe face the challenge of finding a setup that is simultaneously lightweight, weatherproof, and inconspicuous . A tent is often too heavy or impractical in rough terrain, while a simple hammock offers no protection against insects or rain.
The Traveller Camp Forest solves this problem as a fully integrated all-in-one system . It combines a comfortable hammock, a protective mosquito net, and a weatherproof tarp into a single, cohesive product. Requested by the Community: The New Forest Design
We listened! Bushcrafters and survival experts from all over Europe asked us for a version that becomes one with nature. The leaf pattern (Camo) ensures that your camp visually merges with the forest surroundings—ideal for everyone who values maximum discretion while wild camping.
The Advantages of the Traveller Camp Forest at a Glance
Why is this combination the ultimate setup for your next tour?
  • Complete Protection: The permanently installed tarp protects you from rain, while the extremely fine-mesh mosquito net (1000 MESH) keeps even the smallest biting midges out. • Ultralight & Compact: Despite the full set of features, the pack size remains minimal—perfect for long-distance hikes and multi-day trekking tours. • Lay Diagonally: Thanks to the special cut, you can use the Brazilian lying technique and sleep almost as flat as in a bed. • Durability: With 30 years of experience in the outdoor sector, we only use materials that can withstand the harshest conditions.
Technical Details & Features:
  • Material: High-quality, tear-resistant polyester (Ripstop). • Water Column: The integrated tarp is reliably waterproof with approx. 3,000mm. • Weight: Optimized for backpack trekking, weighing only about 1.6kg. • Ridgeline: A ridgeline for the mosquito net is already integrated. • Thermal Compartment: A pocket for your sleeping pad is integrated into the underside to keep you warm from below.
Simple Setup: Your Perfect Sleeping Spot in Just a Few Steps
One of the greatest advantages of the Traveller Camp Forest is the time saved. While others are still struggling with tent poles and pegs, you are already relaxing in your hammock.
  1. Find a Spot: Look for two stable trees spaced about 4–5 meters apart. 2. Hang it up: Attach the hammock to the trees using suspension ropes (e.g., our Adventure Ropes). White arrows on the Traveller Camp show exactly where the tree attachments should go. 3. Tension: Pull the integrated tarp outwards over the ridgeline and secure it to the ground with the 4 included pegs (in high-visibility signal colors). 4. Ready to go: The mosquito net tensions itself automatically during setup—your secure night camp is ready.
Find the full setup guide and further benefits here
Maximum Flexibility: A Setup for Any Terrain
The Traveller Camp Forest is much more than just a hammock—it is a modular overnight system. Thanks to decades of experience, we have optimized the design so you can adapt to any situation in nature instantly.

  1. The Classic: Between Two Trees The standard variant for maximum comfort. Simply span the Traveller Camp Forest between two stable trees. • Pro Tip: In good weather, you can simply "flip open" and fix one side of the integrated tarp. This allows you to enjoy the fresh forest air and the view while remaining protected should a sudden shower occur. 2. The Space Miracle: Use as a Tarp Only Would you rather sleep on the ground or do you need a dry retreat for your gear during the day? No problem. • "Hoist up" the hammock: A special feature is the ability to pull the hammock right up under the tarp ridge using the suspension ropes. • The Benefit: This creates a spacious, protected area under the tarp that you can use as a "living room" for cooking or changing, while the hammock stays clean and dry above you. 3. The Ground Setup: When Trees are Missing Bushcrafters and trekking fans know the struggle: you reach the perfect spot, but the trees are too far apart or non-existent. The Traveller Camp Forest won't let you down. • Tent Mode: Using trekking poles or suitable branches, the system can be transformed into a Ground Setup. • Construction: Simply tension the ridgeline to the trekking poles so the tarp unfolds like a ridge tent above you, and fix the 4 tarp corners to the ground with pegs. This ensures you always have a secure roof over your head, even in treeless regions or alpine terrain.
Who is the Traveller Camp Forest Made For?
Whether in the dense forests of Central Europe or on expeditions in Scandinavia—the Traveller Camp Forest is incredibly versatile: • Bushcrafters : Thanks to the camo pattern, you remain undetected while perfecting your wilderness skills. • Wild Campers: A minimal footprint and fast setup/teardown are essential. Additionally, hammock camping is often tolerated in Europe where traditional tenting might be restricted. • Survival & Trekking Fans: When every gram counts, but you cannot compromise on safety (insects, weather).
  FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
  1. Is the Traveller Camp Forest suitable for beginners? Absolutely! Since the tarp, mosquito net, and hammock form a single unit, there is no need for complicated coordination of individual gear pieces. The setup is intuitive and finished within minutes. 2. How effective is the camouflage pattern? The "Forest" leaf pattern was specifically developed for European mixed forests. It breaks up the contours of the setup, making it barely perceptible as a man-made object from a distance. 3. Do I need additional accessories for hanging? For maximum flexibility, we recommend our ultralight tree suspensions. They allow you to attach the hammock in a tree-friendly manner without the need for complicated knots. 4. Can I remove the tarp? The tarp is permanently attached to the system. However, on clear nights, it can be folded to the side and secured at the top, giving you a clear view of the stars while the mosquito net continues to protect you.
Conclusion: Your Upgrade for the Ultimate Outdoor Experience
The Traveller Camp Forest is more than just a new color. It is the result of decades of expertise and direct exchange with you—the people who are at home in the wild. If you are looking for a reliable, ultralight, and stealthy outdoor hammock, this is the model for you.

Hammocks are the perfect solution to protect you from crawling insects or mosquitoes in nature – especially when you hang them between two trees. However, outdoor hammocks with mosquito nets are more versatile than you might think. What do you do when there are no suitable trees around? With this survival hack, you can use your ultralight hammock with a mosquito net as a ground tent.
Outdoor hammocks aren’t just for hanging in the air. During a wild camping night under the open sky, hammocks with mosquito nets can also be used as a sleeping spot and insect protection on the ground. Here’s how the survival hack works:
Setting up a hammock without trees
  1. Lay out the hammock : Spread your outdoor hammock flat on the ground. Make sure there are no sharp stones or branches underneath and that you’re not lying on a slope. 2. Secure the hammock: Insert two sticks into the end loops of the hammock to keep it stable. You can use trekking poles or longer branches. If you sharpen the ends of the branches with a pocketknife, they will hold better. 3. Set up the mosquito net: Use the ridgeline (a cord running inside the mosquito net) to stretch the mosquito net like a tent over the hammock. Attach the ridgeline to the top ends of the trekking poles or branches.
And there you have it – a DIY bivy sack made from a mosquito net!
Does a hammock provide sleep comfort and safety on the ground?
Hammocks also offer protection and comfort on the ground. You can sleep comfortably and safely in outdoor hammocks – here are some hammock hacks:
  • Sleep softly: Place a sleeping pad, leaves, or moss under the hammock to cushion your sleeping spot. • Protection from moisture and crawling insects : Position logs under your hammock to create distance from the ground. This keeps you dry and safe from uninvited guests like ants or beetles. • Hammocks with mosquito nets provide a sense of security by creating a protective space – ideal for not feeling completely exposed on the ground.

Advantages of Amazonas Ultra-Light Hammocks on the ground

Outdoor hammocks like the Amazonas Ultra-Light Mosquito Net Hammocks are not only lightweight and compact but also extremely practical for the so-called ground setup:
• Amazonas hammocks have 4 small loops on the sides (normally used for attaching an underquilt), which can also be used to secure the hammock to the ground.
• Amazonas Thermo Hammocks feature an i ntegrated thermo pocket – perfect for inserting a sleeping pad or soft leaves. This prevents anything from slipping, even if you move around at night.
• The ridgeline comes pre-installed – no time-consuming threading required! Plus, there are spreader bars for flexible adjustment of the mosquito net – so it doesn’t hang too low in your face.
• The integrated mosquito net has particularly fine mes h and reliably protects you from mosquitoes – essential for survival trips in the tropics or even outdoor overnight stays in Europe.

Conclusion: Hammock – your versatile Companion
Hammocks are the ideal choice for any adventure. Outdoor hammocks like the Amazonas Ultra-Light are lightweight, durable, and offer protection and comfort – whether you use them between trees or on the ground.
Are you ready for your next adventure? With an ultralight hammock and mosquito net, you’re always well-prepared!

Hammocks are the ideal companion, whether you're exploring rivers or trekking through the wilderness. They offer minimal packing effort and maximum outdoor enjoyment. Here’s why a hammock can enhance your packrafting adventure and the benefits it brings.
What is Packraft?
Packrafting involves traveling with an inflatable, lightweight boat that’s easy to transport. Whether you're paddling through wild rivers or crossing lakes, packrafting opens up new possibilities for adventures off the beaten path. But what makes a hammock the perfect addition? Simple: packrafting and outdoor hammocks share the same minimalist approach—lightweight, compact, and incredibly versatile.
Advantages of Hammocks for Packrafting
Hammocks offer numerous benefits, making your packrafting adventure even more enjoyable.
  1. Lightweight and compact
Every gram counts in packrafting. An ultralight outdoor hammock provides a sleeping spot that takes up minimal space in your backpack and adds almost no weight. AMAZONAS Ultra-Light Hammocks often weigh less than a kilogram and pack down small—perfect for stashing in your boat or backpack.
2. Protection from mosquitoes and weather
With an integrated mosquito net, you’re well-protected from insects, especially near water where you’ll often take breaks during your paddle. Many outdoor hammocks can also be paired with tarps for rain and sun protection—ideal for unpredictable weather in the wild.
3. Hammocks make wildcamping possible
While wild camping with tents is often prohibited in Germany, overnighting in a hammock is usually tolerated. With an outdoor hammock, you can enjoy nature without breaking the rules—perfect for adventurers who love freedom.
4. Flexible sleeping options
Unlike tents, hammocks don’t require flat ground. Whether between two trees by the riverbank or in a forest, you can set up your sleeping spot quickly and flexibly. This is especially useful in areas with rocky or wet terrain.
5. Adventure with comfort
Packrafting is demanding, and at the end of a long day, you want to rest comfortably. A high-quality AMAZONAS hammock provides a comfortable sleeping spot that supports your back, especially when using the Brazilian diagonal lying technique . Plus, you can relax during the day by flipping the mosquito net down - perfect for a break. With our XXL hammocks, you can even relax with a partner.

Tips for Your Next Packrafting Adventure with a Hammock
  • Choose the right spot: Look for two sturdy trees about 3–4 meters apart. • Rain protection: Use a tarp to shield yourself and your gear from rain. • Safety first: Avoid hanging your hammock over dangerous areas like steep slopes or water.

Conclusion: Why Hammocks Are Perfect for Packrafting
An ultralight hammock with a mosquito net is the ideal solution for packrafting adventures. It combines comfort, lightness, and flexibility—everything you need for your trip. Our AMAZONAS Ultra-Light Hammocks are designed for outdoor enthusiasts who value quality and functionality.

One such game-changer for thermal insulation in your outdoor hammock is the Tunnel Quilt, a combination of an underquilt and a topquilt. In this blog post...

The idea of the Tunnel Quilt came from a desire to provide hammock campers with a comprehensive thermal insulation solution. Traditional underquilts and topquilts work well independently, but when seamlessly combined they create a cocoon of warmth and comfort.
Explanation of the individual components:
  1. Underquilt:
An underquilt hangs under the outdoor hammock and provides insulation to prevent heat loss from below. The distance between the hammock and the underquilt creates an insulating thermal bridge. In addition, when using an underquilt, you no longer need a sleeping pad, or at most in particularly cold temperatures to increase the thermal output.
  2. Topquilt:
A Topquilt is similar to a traditional sleeping bag, but was specifically designed for use in the outdoor hammock. The topquilt lacks the back part, which is flattened when lying down and therefore loses its insulating function. This saves weight when wild camping with a hammock.
The Tunndel Quilt is a clever combination of underquilt and topquilt that offers many advantages over the individual components.
Advantages of the tunnel quilt over an underquilt or a topquilt:
  1. All-round complete thermal protection: The Tunnel Quilt offers the best of both worlds - insulation from below and protection from above. Because there are no cold bridges between the two components, there is even greater thermal insulation in your hammock.
  2. Sleeping with a straight back possible: Our Tunnel Quillt is cut extra wide at the bottom so that you can lie with a straight back using the Brazilian lying technique .
  3. Weight efficiency and compactness: Compared to carrying a separate underquilt and topquilt, the Tunnel Quilt reduces the overall weight of your equipment. This means more comfort and a lighter load at the same time. 1390g vs. 990g + 935g. The volume is also reduced from two individual parts roughly the size of a sleeping bag to one.
  4. Simple setup: It couldn't be easier! Instead of attaching 2 items to the hammock, you simply pull the tunnel quilt over your hammock like a sock.
• Attach the bottom end to the hanging loop of the hammock. • Hook the thin string into the hammock hanger at the head end. • Pull the tunnel quilt up to the middle and step in. • Use the thin adjustment cord to pull the tunnel up under your shoulders. • Use the drawstring to tighten the shoulder area.

This creates a cozy microclimate in your hammock. And you can also regulate the air circulation by tightening or opening the straps at the bottom.
  5. The tunnel quilt as a sleeping bag: What makes the Tunnel Quilt special is its adaptability. In addition to being used as a hammock thermal protection, the tunnel quilt can also be used as a comfortable sleeping bag. This feature makes it the perfect companion for a variety of outdoor adventures.
Ready for your adventure? Whether you're an experienced hammock camper or a newbie to wild camping, the Tunnel Quilt offers a comfortable and efficient solution for everyone. Pack up your outdoor hammock, snuggle up in the tunnel quilt, and enjoy the freedom of sleeping under the stars.

An Underquilt is the ultimate protection from the cold when spending the night in your outdoor hammock. Amazonas Ultra-Light Underquilts have all been made of hollow fiber so far. We now also have a Goose Down Underquilt with a filling of certified goose down, which is particularly suitable for winter camping in an outdoor hammock .

Advantages of the Goose Down Underquilt over a hollow fiber Underquilt:
  1. Greater thermal insulation in your hammock Down has a higher fill power and therefore offers better thermal insulation in relation to weight than hollow fiber.
  2. Better compressibility of the underquilt Down is extremely compressible, making it ideal for transport. The special packaging bag from Goose Down Underquilt, which is equipped with compression stra
  3. Low weight for a hammock tour Underquilts made from down are particularly light. They don't take up much space in your backpack, which is ideal for hammock camping overnighters. With the weight of just under 1kg, the down underquilt offers twice as much thermal insulation as an underquilt made of hollow fiber.
  4. Breathability in your hammock Down has natural properties that allow good air circulation. They can efficiently wick away moisture and thus ensure good ventilation.
  5. Water-repellent surface to protect against moisture Knowing that down is sensitive to moisture, we have given our down underquilt a water-repellent surface.
  6. High durability of a down underquilt High-quality down underquilts are typically durable and can last for years if cared for properly. They retain their insulating ability over a long period of time.
Down also has some limitations compared to hollow fiber:
  1. Sensitivity to moisture Down is more susceptible to moisture and takes longer to dry.
  2. Storage is best spread out To ensure that down retains its fluffiness over a longer storage period, the underquilt, like any down sleeping bag, should be stored spread out or at least shaken up regularly.
  3. Ethical concerns regarding animal welfare during production When using down for our hammock underquilt, it was important to us to only use certified down.
  4. High price of the underquilt Due to the high animal welfare standards during production, the price of an underquilt is significantly higher than that of a hollow fiber underquilt.
Whichever underquilt you choose for an overnight stay in your outdoor hammock, you should definitely ensure additional insulation from above and protection from snow or rain, for example with a tarp .
Here you will find tips for attaching an underquilt to a hammock .

Outdoor hammock, mosquito net and tarp - the Traveller Camp is the perfect solution for hammock camping beginners who want to have everything they need for sleeping in a hammock in one product. In addition, the Traveller Camp is designed in such a way that it can be set up quickly and easily in just a few steps. This is also appreciated by wild camping professionals who don't want to spend much time setting up a hammock. This complete hammock set is the result of decades of hammock use and production. It combines many technically sophisticated features with easy and quick handling.

The most important advantages of the outdoor hammock set, Traveller Camp:
   1. Complete set *, consisting of a hammock, mosquito net and tarp, contains everything you need for your outdoor hammock overnight stay.
• The ultra-light hammock is sewn from parachute silk and has a thermal compartment into which you can slide an insulating mat to protect you from the cold. • The extra-large mosquito net with double zips protects you against insects • The tarp protects you from wind and rain *Tree hanging ropes are not included.
  2. Simple and quick assembly . Because the individual components are connected to each other, you no longer have to laboriously assemble the hammock, tarp and mosquito net individually. The Traveller Camp can be set up in just a few minutes.
• Fasten the hammock to the trees (white arrows help you here) • Tighten the ridgeline , which tightens the tarp • Set the height of the hammock • Fasten the 4 corners of the tarp to the ground using the herrings. • DONE!

  3. Various setups possible. The Traveller Camp is particularly flexible in use. Depending on the situation, you can set it up variably. • Between 2 trees , in a classic way. You can "unfold" one side of the tarp when the weather is nice. • Only as a tarp , for floor sleepers or to have protection from the rain under the hammock during the day. The hammock can be lashed under the tarp ridge with the help of the suspension ropes, so you have plenty of space underneath. • Withought suitable trees assambled in a so-called ground setup. You can use hiking sticks or long branches to stretch the suspension points up so that a kind of tent is formed.

Other advantages of the Traveller Camp hammock set:
  4. Comfortable sleeping in the hammock. The lying surface of the hammock is extra large at approx. 275x140cm, so that you can stretch out diagonally with a straight back using the Brazilian lying technique .
  5. Protection from the cold from below thanks to the integrated thermal compartment on the underside of the hammock, whre you can slide in a sleeping mat for more heat insulation. Our patented thermal compartment is sewn diagonally so that you can use the Brazilian lying technique.
  6. The extra large mosquito net not only offers you protection against mosquitoes , but also forms a cozy safe space that isolates you somewhat from the environment. At the same time, the particularly small meshes allow a good view of the surroundings, which can be very helpful in the event of strange noises at night. The Ridgeline runs inside the mosquito net and offers the possibility to hang a flashlight or an Organizer or wet clothes to dry.
  7. The integrated tarp with sewn mosquito net is PUR coated and water-repellent . If the tarp got wet, the hammock doesn't have to get wet when you take it down. Simply tighten the hammock and mosquito net high under the tarp and fold the tarp around the hammock. Both the storage pockets for the tension cords and the bottom of the pack sack are made of mesh material, which promotes quick drying.
8 . Due to the ultra-light material , the Traveller Camp is partcularly light and compact and can be compressed to the size of a small football using the compression buckles.
Thanks to these many advantages, the Traveller Camp enables you to spend a relaxing night in the hammock without much previous knowledge of setting up a hammock.
Escape your everyday life and experience your micro-adventure! Enjoy the freedom in nature and create unforgettable memories! Here is a little video about the Traveller Camp:

Zum Traveller Camp empfehlen wir dir die T-Straps als Aufhängeseile, sowie das Underquilt , für noch mehr Wärmeisolierung, um auch im Winter draußen schlafen zu können.
For the Traveller Camp we recommend the T-Straps as suspension ropes, as well as the Underquilt for even more thermal insulation so that you can sleep outside in winter.

The Amazonas organizer for ultralight outdoor hammocks with mosquito net allows you to store your outdoor equipment, such as torch, knife or even your mobile phone conveniently and within reach inside your hammock.
Advantages of the Organizer in your hammock
When spending the night in your outdoor hammock, you need to have a few essential items close at hand. If you just put them in the sleeping area of the hammock, they can slip under your body and be hard to find again. This can't happen with the Organzier, because the items are neatly stowed away and within sight above you .
In the past, Amazonas Ultra-Light Outdoor Hammocks were equipped with pockets on the mosquito net. The mosquito net was often pulled too far into the interior by the weight of the items stored in it, which is no longer the case with the organizer attached to the Ridgeline.
Attaching the Organizer to the ridgeline of your hammock:
The Organizer is attached to the ridgeline with 2 clips . You can move it flexibly along the ridgeline. You don't have to thread it through the ridgeline of the mosquito net hammock and can simply put it in your rucksack together with your valuables when packing. A cord with a locking button prevents anything from falling out of the organiser. The organiser is also made of transparent mosquito net fabric, so you can not only see what's inside , but also place a torch vertically inside.
The Organizer is suitable for hammocks with a ridgeline that runs inside the mosquito net. (available from 2023 for most Amazonas Ultra-Light mosquito hammocks).
If you are using a hammock without a mosquito net, you can still attach the Organizer above the hammock using an additional cord that you loop around the trees.
The Organizer is explained here. (included with the Adventure Hero XXL ):

Hammock with tarp or a tent for an overnight stay outdoors? Both sleeping options have their advantages and disadvantages.
Hammock setup - 10 advantages over the tent:
  1. Wild camping with a hammock is not forbidden Wild camping with a hammock or tarp is tolerated in Germany, whereas wild camping, with a few exceptions, is prohibited.
  2. Weight and volume lower with hammock Our ADVENTURE SET made of ultra-light ripstop material weighs only 940g including mosquito hammock, suspension ropes and tarp. When packed, the individual parts have a volume of 3 drink cans. This means you can easily store them in your backpack. A standard tent often weighs more than 1kg and is a little bulkier when stowed in a rucksack.
  3. No condensation under the tarp Unlike a tent (especially a single-layer tent), where condensation can form on the walls from breathing, there's always plenty of air circulation in a hammock.
  4. Sleeping comfort is higher in hammocks You can lie more comfortably in a hammock than on the ground in a tent. If you use the Brazilian lying technique , you can even sleep with your back stretched out and be gently rocked to sleep.
  5. In a hammock you are part of nature and protect it at the same time In a hammock you can enjoy your surroundings more directly. You can not only look at the starry sky, but also immediately see where an unknown noise comes from. Hammocks protect nature. The ground is not used over a wide area as it is with a tent. This means that small creeping animals and plants are spared.
  6. Hammocks offer protection from animals, thanks to the mosquito net and the distance from the ground Crawling animals such as ants and snails cannot harm you in a hammock. In a hammock with a mosquito net you are also safe from mosquitoes. You are even protected from relatively large animals, such as wild bears, if you hang your hammock relatively high. Most hammocks and tarps are made in muted colours or a camouflage pattern. This is less noticeable in the wild than a brightly coloured tent. This can look like a foreign object to animals, which could make them aggressive.
  7. Hammocks are better on damp and uneven ground You can set up a hammock over damp and uneven ground, as well as on slopes where you usually have a great view of the area. You don't necessarily need trees to use a hammock or tarp. You can also set it up on the ground using trekking poles, branches or rocks.
  8. With a tarp you can try different setups A hammock setup offers many different ways to set up your tarp. Close to the ground as a tent substitute, sheltered from the wind or open to enjoy the view or create space for several people.
  9. Rain-protected living space under a tarp When it rains, you can prepare food under a tarp, sit with several people or even build a campfire.
  10. Winter suitability of the tarp, thanks to a slanted setup Most tents are not designed for heavy snowfall. The tent poles could buckle under the weight of the snow. A tarp, on the other hand, can be pitched at an angle so that the snow slides down.
What other equipment you need for an overnight stay in a hammock.

The Ridgeline is the rope that stretches the mosquito net on mosquito hammocks and thus provides more space in the hammock.
Until now, the Ridgeline was supplied separately with most Amazonas Ultra-Light mosquito hammocks and had to be threaded through the suspension loops when setting up the hammock.
Now the ridgeline is moved inside the mosquito net:

To make it easier to set up our mosquito hammocks, we have moved the guy line of the mosquito net on the inside of the net. This way, when hanging the hammock, you only have to attach the ridgeline to the trees.

This change will be available on all our mosquito hammocks by mid 2023 ( Moskito-Traveller Thermo is already supplied with internal ridgeline).
These are the advantages of the internal Ridgeline:
• Setting up the hammock is easier and faster • The Ridgeline does not get lost because it is connected to the product • The Ridgeline can be used to hang light items such as a torch or Organizer . • With the two rope stoppers inside, the net can be optimally stretched and the interior space can be pleasantly enlarged
In the following hammocks, the ridgeline is already inside . It is also attached to the hammock and does not have to be attached to the tree:
   Adventure Hero XXL , Moskito-Traveller Quilted , Moskito-Traveller forest , Moskito-Traveller Thermo , Moskito-Traveller Thermo XXL

The MOSKITO TRAVELLER QUILTED is a combination of a Moskito hammock and an underquilt. This ‘3 in 1’ hammock not only warms you from below and protects you from mosquitoes . It is also very easy to set up. This makes the Moskito Traveller Quilted particularly suitable for hammock camping beginners for whom hanging up the many individual components of hammock equipment would still be a complicated task.

Tips for setting up the Moskito Traveller Quilted hammock:

• The hammock is packed in a so-called bishop’s mitre (sewn-on pack sack), which has a loop at one end. Just hang the rope that goes around the tree* there, pull the hammock out of the pack sack and attach it to the second tree. *not included in the delivery.
Find out here what distance you need between the trees!
• The ridgeline is already pre-assembled and does not need to be specially hung up. This rope for tensioning the mosquito net is no longer attached to the trees, but is fixed to the ends of the hammock. With the help of the so-called Prusik knot (a sliding knot or friction hitch), you can tighten the ridgeline. You hold the knot between your fingers. This allows you to slide it back and forth along the ridgeline. TIP : You should not pull away from the line (otherwise the knot will stall) but along the length of the line.
• Now all you have to do is insert the patented spreader bars into the pockets at the top of the mosquito net . When you are lying in the hammock, you can move them along the ridgeline to stretch the net even more.
• When dismantling , you simply detach one end of the outdoor hammock from the tree and roll up the hammock like a sock to store it again in the bishop’s mitre at the other end. This way, the hammock does not get wet by falling on the ground and you do not need another person to help you take down the hammock.
• This outdoor hammock, made of ultra-light ripstop parachute silk , can also be used without a mosquito net . Simply turn it around and relax!
• If you’re spending the night outdoors, you can also get a tarp for protection from rain or wind . And please don’t forget the tree straps for hanging up the hammock!
• On particularly cold nights or when hammock camping in winter, you can combine the Moskito Traveller Quilted with an underquilt . This way you can increase the degree of warmth by simply attaching the underquilt underneath the hammock.

Why is it especially suitable for hammock camping beginners and wild camping in Sweden? And what are the advantages compared to a set of two single items? Here you will find the answers.

The MOSKITO TRAVELLER QUILTED is a hammock with mosquito net and integrated protection against the cold – you could call it a combination of a hammock and an underquilt .
If you get cold easily when sleeping in a hammock, this outdoor hammock is perfect for you! As a combination hammock, it is perfect for cooler countries such as Sweden , where it is cold at night even in summer and you need mosquito protection almost everywhere. But even in more southerly regions, summer nights are often so cold that you need thermal insulation..
The MOSKITO TRAVELLER QUILTED hammock not only warms you from below and protects you from mosquitoes . It is also very easy to set up . This makes the Mosquito Traveller Quilted the ultimate solution for hammock camping beginners who are still a bit apprehensive about setting up a professional hammock camp.

Five benefits of the Moskito Traveller Quilted hammock
  1. A ‘3 in 1’ hammock with integrated mosquito protection and thermal insulation With this combi item* you no longer need to buy individual items for sleeping in a hammock in the open air, you already have a perfectly fitting solution. *Tree straps are not included.
  2. Midge protection in the hammock With this outdoor hammock you are not only protected against midges from above by the mosquito net, but also from below by the additional padding.
  3. Thermal insulation for an overnight stay in your hammock A warming layer of hollow fibres is sewn underneath the hammock, at a slight distance from the lying surface. This creates an air cushion which serves as heat insulation. This layer is sewn on diagonally so that you can lie comfortably with your back stretched out, using the Brazilian lying technique .
  4. Exceptionally quick to set up and dismantle With this hammock, the components (which you would otherwise have to hang up individually, e.g. ridgeline and underquilt) are already pre-assembled and can be set up in a few simple steps . Thanks to the so-called bishop’s mitre , you can easily roll up the hammock like a sock when dismantling it and stuff it into the sewn-on pack sack.
  5. Light weight and compact pack size With a weight of only 950 g , this combination is even lighter than a hammock (from approx. 450 g) and underquilt (from approx. 990 g) together. The pack size of 35*17cm is also smaller than two individual items.

These are the five benefits of having an ultra-light hammock in your van
  1. An ultra-light hammock saves space Rolled up to the size of a drinks can, a hammock made of parachute silk, takes up hardly any space even in a crowded bus or van.
  2. An ultra-light hammock saves weight On a motorhome or van trip, every kilo counts, because of the risk of overloading. Our outdoor hammocks weigh about as much as a packet of butter.
  3. A hammock replaces outdoor furniture Anyone travelling with a camper or bus spends a lot of time outside in front of the camper. In this setting, the hammock can not only replace a deck chair, it is also much more comfortable.
  4. A hammock gives you distance No matter how much you love your camper or van, sometimes you need some space from the bus or your fellow travellers. A travel hammock offers the perfect option to get away from it all!
  5. A hammock can replace a bed Especially on hot nights, when it’s too stuffy in the camper, you can definitely spend a night in the hammock under the open sky. If you use the Brazilian lying technique , nothing stands in the way of your having a restful night with a straight back!

A thermal hammock with a compartment, like our Moskito Traveller Thermo , allows you to place an insulating mat underneath the hammock. This gives you enhanced thermal insulation , because when you spend the night in an outdoor hammock it often gets cold from below. Since a sleeping bag or thick jacket is flattened by your own weight when lying in a hammock, they lose their warming function.
Patented thermal compartment for an insulating mat in the hammock – here’s what it gives you!
  • Insulating mat does not slip around in the thermal hammock Anyone who has ever tried just to put an insulating mat in the hammock will have found that it slips during the night when you turn over. Inserted in a thermal compartment, the insulating mat is fixed and can no longer slip out of place.
  • Comfortable to lie in as the hammock has a diagonal compartment Amazonas is the only hammock manufacturer to have a patented diagonally sewn insert compartment for sleeping mats. Why diagonally? Because this is the only way to sleep comfortably with your back stretched out according to the Brazilian lying technique .
  • Saves weight when wild camping with or without a hammock Since you often have an insulating mat with you anyway when wild camping, for sitting or sleeping on the ground, you save the weight of an extra protection against the cold such as an underquilt . The second layer of fabric for the thermal compartment adds minimal weight, as like the hammock it is sewn from ultra-light parachute silk.
Click here to learn about the various advantages and disadvantages between an underquilt and a thermal hammock .
  • Thermal compartment can be used flexibly at different temperatures. On warm nights, you can simply leave the thermal compartment empty. It won’t interfere with your sleep. In particularly cold temperatures, the compartment is sewn in such a way that you can easily use an insulating mat and an additional underquilt.
  • Thermal compartment is suitable for use with all standard insulating mats. The thermal compartment in our hammocks is designed to fit all common insulating mat sizes. So you don’t have to buy an insulating mat specially. The most common mat sizes for trekking tours are ‘Regular’ (approx. 183 x 51 cm) and ‘Large’ (approx. 200 x 60 cm).
Tip : Always leave your insulating mat slightly ‘under-inflated’ for use in the hammock, i.e. not fully blown up as it is when you are sleeping on the ground. This way it adapts better to the shape of the hammock and you lie much more comfortably.

Tips and tricks: • To ensure that the underquilt fits your hammock perfectly, you should choose the underquilt size that matches your hammock size .

• If you are using a Moskito hammock with a ridgeline, the small carabiner can be used to attach the tensioning cords of the underquilt to the top of the ridgeline . This pulls the sides of the underquilt higher and provides even more flank protection from the cold and the wind .
• If you don’t have a ridgeline available, you can connect the tensioning cords in the middle above the hammock .
• The Underquilt Poncho can also be used as a warming drape.

Here’s the right way of attaching your underquilt to the hammock:
  1. Hang the underquilt loosely underneath your hammock and attach it to the ends of the hammock with the thick straps. Pull the straps tight. 2. Attach the thin ropes to the tree trunks so that the underquilt does not slip. 3. Gather the ropes in the middle of the underquilt in such a way that its edges are over the edges of the hammock. Caution: Do not pull too tight! The underquilt should still form an air cushion underneath the hammock. 4. Fine-tune the adjustment of the underquilt with the help of the ropes in the middle after you are lying in the hammock.

An underquilt is a kind of sleeping bag that is attached to the hammock from below.
With a thermal hammock, you can use an insulating mat in the compartment on the underside of the hammock.
Both give you thermal insulation from below.
Whether you use an underquilt or an insulating mat as protection against the cold depends on various factors. The following points will help you decide.

  Underquilt and its advantages:
  • Better protection against the cold . By contrast with an insulating mat in the thermal compartment of a hammock, an underquilt warms not just from below, but also from the sides . If you pull the sides of the underquilt right up, your shoulders and feet are also well protected.
  • Saving space . An underquilt is easier to stow in a rucksack than an insulating mat.

Insulating mat in the hammock and its advantages:
  • Ease of handling . If you have an insulating mat in the thermal compartment of the hammock, no further adjustment is necessary as it is with the underquilt.
  • Various options of use . You can use a sleeping mat to protect you from cold in a hammock or even when sleeping on the ground.
In particularly cold temperatures, you can combine the underquilt with the sleeping pad in the hammock compartment. This increases the thermal effectiveness.

What is an underquilt and why do you need it for your outdoor hammock when wild camping? Here you can find out how the thermal insulation of an underquilt works, and what advantages an underquilt has compared to a sleeping bag in a hammock.

An underquilt is the most comfortable protection against cold when sleeping in a hammock.
Anyone who has ever spent the night in a hammock in somewhat cooler temperatures knows that at some point your back starts to feel the cold. This is because when lying in a hammock, the body presses all the insulating air layers flat . Whether with a sleeping bag or with a jacket, there is hardly any warming air left between the body and the thin hammock bottom. This allows cold to penetrate from the outside.

Underquilt – here’s how the thermal insulation works:
An underquilt (a kind of sleeping bag) is not placed in the hammock, but hung underneath it. This creates an air cushion that serves as thermal insulation. When attaching an underquilt, you should therefore make sure that it does not fit too tightly against the hammock.

Advantages of an underquilt compared with a sleeping bag:
  • Protection against cold from below An underquilt hangs freely and forms a warming air cushion. On the other hand, the underside of the sleeping bag loses its warming function because it is flattened.
  • Saving space in the rucksack An underquilt has only about half the volume of a sleeping bag. Since the underside of the sleeping bag is non-functional, you can save this extra volume.
  • Reduced weight In contrast to the sleeping bag, you not only save the weight of the lower fabric part, but also that of the zip and possibly a sleeping bag hood.
  • Easy to get into your hammock An underquilt hangs below the hammock and does not interfere with getting into the hammock. On the other hand, it is very inconvenient getting into the hammock in a sleeping bag legs first.

How to warm yourself in a hammock from above: So with an underquilt you are protected from below. For protection against the cold from above, there is a special solution that both saves weight and is more comfortable when getting into your hammock. A TOPQUILT is a kind of sleeping bag without a back part, with an integrated foot sack.
Instead of an underquilt, you can also use an insulating mat in the compartment of your hammock to protect you from the cold. Find out here about the advantages this offers.

Hammocks and tarps made of ripstop material are much more tear-resistant than traditionally woven fabrics. Many well-known manufacturers of ultra-light tents and outdoor equipment use this extremely light fabric which is woven using a special technique. What is special about Ripstop technology? Ripstop is a special type of woven nylon or polyester fabric . Threads are woven crosswise so that, should a small hole occur, the tear does not extend over the entire fabric like a ‘ running loop ’, but is stopped by the next thread’s crosswise reinforcement.
This ensures • high tear resistance • long service life of your hammock • safety
AMAZONAS Ultra-Light hammocks and tarps are made of two different thicknesses of the Ripstop material. This means they have different properties. Based on this difference, we divide our products into the TRAVELLER series and the ADVENTURE series .

Here’s how you can avoid getting holes in the Ripstop material. Be careful of • flying sparks from a campfire • sharp branches, thorns and rocky projections • sharp objects in your clothing or rucksack • children biting your hammock (my son! ;-)

How to repair a small hole in the ripstop material Small holes are not a problem for your safety , as the ripstop material reduces the risk of larger tears. Nevertheless, it is better to close up the hole as soon as possible. • For small holes , adhesive patches for nylon or polyester will do the job. • Larger tears should be sewn, and additionally strengthened with an adhesive patch.

AMAZONAS Ultra-Light tarps are divided into two categories, just like our ultra-light hammocks. The extremely light and compact ADVENTURE series includes tarps made of silnylon, the TRAVELLER series the somewhat heavier and robust tarp made of polyester..
Both fabrics are woven using what is known as Ripstop technique . This technique allows both series to have a high tensile strength . Should a small hole appear in the hammock, the cross-laid threads prevent the hole from enlarging.
TRAVELLER TARPS VS ADVENTURE TARPS: the differences
  AMAZONAS TRAVELLER Tarps
Traveller Tarp , Traveller Wing Tarp , Traveller Tarp XXL , Traveller Tarp forest

  Properties : • Material : polyester • Ripstop technique : 210T • Weight : light • Coating : polyurethane-coated incl. seams, PVC free • Water column : ca. 3000 mm
FACTS : • Robust , because of the more densely woven material • Tear resistant, UV resistant and waterproof • High water column thanks to the polyurethane coating • Long durability due to low susceptibility to abrasion • Can be used as a moisture barrier on the ground (however, care must be taken to ensure that the ground is free of stones, broken branches and other sharp objects).
• Less sensitive to flying sparks from campfires than nylon • No stretching when wet (does not need to be retightened after installation) • Low price
• Higher weight • Higher pack size • Must be folded neatly to fit in the pack sack because of the coating

Suitable for: Overnight stays lasting several days, bivouacking in winter , hammock camping with a campfire, trips where weight is not an issue.

  AMAZONAS ADVENTURE Tarps
Adventure Tarp , Adventure Wing Tarp

  Properties : • Material : extra stable silnylon* • Ripstop technique : 20D • Weight : ultra-light • Coating : high-quality elastic silicone 2-ply coating, PVC free • Water column : ca. 2000 mm
*Silnylon is extremely smooth. The beading effect is a big advantage, and there is much less water pressure because the water flows off better. Weather protection is thus also ensured even in heavy rain , provided that the tarp has a sufficient gradient so that no large water pockets form.
FACTS : • Particularly lightweight, as a result of the 20D weave • Particularly small pack size • Very tear-resistant, permanently UV-resistant and waterproof , thanks to the combination of siliconisation and Ripstop technology. • Easier to pack Thanks to the smooth coating, there is hardly any friction and therefore the pack size is still excellent when the tarp is simply stuffed into the pack sack. Stuffing is even recommended by premium tent manufacturers for this material. This is not only much less stressful for the user, but also protects the coating from buckling in the same places.
• Sensitive to flying sparks and perforation by branches and sharp objects • Higher price • Retensioning may be necessary as the fabric expands when wet. For this reason, we have attached the tensioning cords in such a way that the tensioning does not occur in the lower part, by the pegs, as is the case with tents, but at the top, so that you can stay dry under the tarp . By the way, this is why we did not run the tensioning cord on the tarp through a fabric loop, as is usually the case, but specially inserted an aluminium ring in between, so as to reduce wear and tear when tensioning .

Suitable for: One-day overnight stays, cycling, canoeing tours, trips where weight is a significant factor.

Here you can find all AMAZONAS Ultra-Light tarps at a glance.
